Winnipeg, MB –TheWinnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) invites all residents to mark Fire Prevention Week, October 6 to 12, by practicing fire escape plans at home, school, and at work. This year’s theme is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice your Escape.” Emergency situations can arise and change quickly; it’s important to create a plan before you need one and to practice it often.
“In an emergency, every second counts. Whether you’re at home, school, or at work, knowing the escape plan and practicing it often can save lives,” said Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Chief John Lane. “We remind residents to review their safety plans and practice fire drills often.”

This week, WFPS will team up with Canadian Tire to promote the importance of smoke alarms and other fire and life safety equipment by making public appearances at Canadian Tire stores throughout the city.
